Samuel “Lee” Meyer graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from NC State University and was commissioned in May 1997. Following graduation from The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course in March 1998, he was assigned to flight school in Pensacola, FL and was designated a Naval Aviator in August 2000.
In March 2001, after completing FRS training in the AH-1W at HMLAT-303, First Lieutenant Meyer reported to HMLA-167, MCAS New River, NC. During his initial tour, Captain Meyer deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I, II, and IV and completed the Weapons and Tactics Instructor course. In August 2006, he reported to 2d Tank Battalion and served as the Headquarters & Service Company Commander and Air Officer.
In June 2007, Major Meyer returned to HMLA-167 and chopped to HMM-365(REIN) with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008. In March 2009, he became the MAG-29 Assistant Operations Officer, followed by the HMLA-167 Maintenance Officer from October 2009 to June 2011.
Upon completion, he departed MCAS New River for Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA and earned his Master of Military Studies through the Marine Corps University.
Following graduation in April 2012, Major Meyer reported to the White House Military Office where he served as the USMC Military Aide to the President of the United States. In June 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Meyer was re-assigned to MAG-29 and assumed duties as the Group Operations Officer with follow-on orders as the Commanding Officer of HMLA-167. Upon completion, he was assigned as the 2d Marine Division, Deputy G3 until departing for the Eisenhower School, where he earned a Master of Science in National Resourcing Strategy.
In June of 2018, he reported to HQMC P&R, Programs Assessment and Evaluations in the Pentagon where he reformed the way the USMC planned, programmed, budgeted, executed, and audited funds in support of Service Chief guidance.
Colonel Meyer was subsequently assigned to I MEF in 2020, where he served as the AC/S G-7, the Commanding Officer of the 13th MEU, and the I MEF Chief of Staff.
Arriving back at II MEF in 2024, he was promoted to Brigadier General and was directed to assume command of 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade and duties as II MEF Deputy Commanding General.
